I am fortunate, but above all honoured, to have been born in one of
the most blessed places on Crete - a place where I was raised, nurtured,
where I took my first steps and spoke my first words. I grew up there
in the company of worthy people – individuals with ethics, pure of heart,
people with dignity and moral standards who strove to maintain the manners
and customs of this place, proud of the illustrious deeds of their forebears.
Only with difficulty can a poet describe the unparalleled beauty that
hovers amidst the olive groves extending down to the seashore, or the
beauty of the whistling of the wind within the gorges, or the awe felt
before the heroic monastery of Arkadi. Only with difficulty can the
artist convey on his canvas the blue of the sky, the reflection of the
sun on the walls of the Venetian mansions, the deep blue of the pristine,
endless sea spread out around us, and the azure sky of August with its
full moon. I invite you to come and get to know our locality at close
quarters, to enjoy its beauty, its history, its traditional dishes,
wine and tsikoudia... to experience a hospitality which will be offered
you without reserve.

Welcome to the Municipality of Arkadi, our home... and be assured
that you will love it as your own!
EMMANUEL MANOLAKAKIS
MAYOR OF ARKADI
